Qualification in the Superbike class and the first pole for MV Agusta in the Supersport class
Superbike and Supersport
Italy, Imola
4 round
9 – 11 May 2014
Today qualifications in both classes of the World Championship have passed on the legendary track Autodromo Enzo у Dino Ferrari, here in Imola. The rider of the Russian team MV Agusta Reparto Corse – YAKHNICH MOTORSPOR Cladio Corti presents the team in the royal class and he finished the day on the 21st position. Tomorrow he’ll start from the 7th starting line.
For the first time in this season the rider of our team could get the pole position. Jules Cluzel won the qualifying of the Supersport and showed the best time on the last lap under the checkered flag. Another rider of the Yakhnich Motorsport – Vladimir Leonov finished on the 9th position in the same Supersport class.
Claudio Corti: "Even before Imola we knew it would be one of the most difficult round for us. The specificity of the circuit Enzo and Dino Ferrari is success here requires two components – the light bike and powerful engine. To get the nightmare we should add to this the hot weather conditions. It’s a joke but the reality isn’t much differ. It’s not easy for us to find correct settings decisions. We could understand what changings should be done to make the bike faster during the race. But we didn’t have time to try them in full during the last free practice so we didn’t get on the Superpole. It’s necessary to look at things really. Our goal on this track is to get into the points zone. Hope tomorrow we’ll accomplish this mission."
Jules Cluzel: "Incredible! Incredible result especially according to how many laps I've done during this weekend. The last lap was perfect. It’s the best lap in my life! I pushed over the limit! At the beginning of the last lap I’ve lost a lot of time but I understood I wouldn’t have another chance so I did my best to pass the last sector as fast as possible. I rode into the corner so fast that it was impossible to stay on the line. However, I could stay on the bike. No doubt, it’ll not easy day tomorrow. Despite the result, we’re still working with the clutch. Today I’ve opened a new potential of my bike. We have to fix some things and the bike will be excellent!”
Vladimir Leonov: “The previous couple rounds we worked over several directions with the bike. But our achievements had been insufficient for this track. So yesterday we’ve made the full shake down. We’ve change almost everything. And all these changes were fundamental. Now it’s completely the new bike. It’s work another way. I need to adapt. Our work had immediate result. My yesterday’s and today’s results are not comparable. I’m sure we could start from the better position if not an unfortunate crash in the qualification. Now we’re going to analyze data and I’m sure we’ll make progress in improving the bike tomorrow morning. I know this track quite good and I hope we’ll show good result in the race”.
