Vladimir Leonov is taking part in the final stage of World Superbike

Владимир Леонов

The fastest racer of Russia – the pilot of Yakhnich Motorsport Vladimir Leonov is taking part in the final stage of World Superbike (WSBK) in Portimao (Portugal). In the season 2011 Vladimir has already participated in the sixth stage of the world championship on the track Misano World Circuit (Italy) but at that time he had to “distribute a force” between two competitions – World Supersport and The Cup of Two States (Coppa die due Paesi). Participation in the race of the Supersport class at the Portuguese Stage will be his second performance according to the “wild card” system in the frames of World Superbike 2011.

Not long before the race-weekend, Vladimir Leonov fell ill and now his weak organism is being cured with antibiotics. But even at this time the racer is doing his best to learn the Portuguese track better, studying the track configuration with a help of a game console, like other professional racers. Before coming to Portugal, the team had practice in Italy and the main aim of that practice was to prepare the bike for the Supersport specification.

“I like this track. Its configuration is rather complex and very interesting. I hope, we will manage to find proper set-ups for the bike and understand optimal race lines”, - Vladimir says. “After the tests in Italy we consider that we have been able to prepare the bike for the race in Portimao much better than for the June stage in Misano. I am planning to perform successfully and get a toehold in top-10, and if I am lucky – to take a higher position. But everything will depend on my health condition, I am not fit now, but I hope to recover by the first official training sessions”, - Leonov says.

The race in Portimao will open the training season of the team Yakhnich Motorsport for the performance in World Superbike 2012. According to the world championship regulations, the racers – WSBK participants cannot take part in training sessions from 1 October 2011 to 15 January 2012. There is not much time to study the new vehicle and train the team how to use this hi-tech World Supersport class bike.

The team Yakhnich Motorsport invites everyone to support Vladimir Not Bad Leonov in the Supersport class race at the Portuguese stage. We will inform you about the most interesting and important events taking place on the track in Portimao, beginning with Friday when the first training runs and the World Supersport qualification take place. And you can watch the race live on the Eurosport, Sunday, 16 October at 16.00 Moscow time. Cheer for our racer!
