SUPERSPORT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Magny-Cours, France

12 stage, 4 – 6 October 2013

Sunday, 6 October

The historical day has come. The Russian team Yakhnich Motorsport and Sam Lowes have won the World Championship. Here, in Magny-Cours, Sam Lowes took the champion statuette ahead the time finishing on the second place in the penultimate stage of the World Supersport.

The team came here with the mood about this victory as after the stage in Istanbul Sam Lowes need only one point to get the title. The strategy for the race was simple – to control Kenan Sofuoglu and avoid the risk to fall. In the struggle between Sam and Kenan took part Christian Iddon from the team ParkinGO MV Agusta. In the middle of the race Sam understood that could win this race and started to attack Sofuoglu.

Sam Lowes: “Iddon showed good pace from the beginning and I decided to keep an eye on him. Than I understood that it’s necessary to win this race and we exchanged with Kenan. I planed to spent one more attack but race was stopped with red flag. Despite the fact that the race was cut down, I got pleasure from the fight with Christian and Kenan. Today is a special day. I’m very happy that I got the champion title! I’m forever grateful to my rivals who helped me to become faster”.

During last lap Iddon made a mistake and fell down. The race was interrupted. Kenan Sofuoglu got the first place, Sam Lowes – the second, Iddon – the third. Lowes and Sofuoglu warmly shook hands in a sign of mutual respect. It also was a symbol of passing the title from the Champion of last season.

Sam Lowes: «It was amasing season for me – new team and new bike. I want to thank all Yakhnich Motorsport engineers, my mechanics and all team for such fantastic bike! We won qualifications and races. No doubt, our team is very strong. Thank everyone who helped me!»

Claudio Corsetti, the General manager Yakhnich Motorsport: “I would like to thank everybody who helped to realize this dream. Special thanks to Alexander and Nadia Yakhnich because their strength and passion supported us! Thanks to our riders! Two years Leonov took part in the development of the bike and his investment is huge. When Sam came, he brought incredible speed and hunger for win which helped us to reached such results from the first weekend. He is our accelerator! Three years ago we started from scratch and now we achieved numerous success. I think no one could win the Championship for such a short time. I’m very happy today as for me it’s a pleasant surprise.”

Vladimir Leonov: « I want to congratulate my teammate with the champion title! He made incredible work and reward it. Today the race was very difficult. We made a huge work with my team. Thank you, guys! Mentally we are in Jerez and ready to show good result”.
